7-Children and fire safety

While we often teach children the importance of road safety or the dangers of electricity, we often give little thought to teaching our children about what to do in the event of a fire at home. 

Much like children practice fire drills at school, it’s important to do the same at home to ensure both calm and quick action to avoid any serious injuries. While fire safety may not be the most exciting topic for children, it will save lives and equip them with important safety skills they will carry into adulthood.

  • Familiarise children with the sound of the smoke alarm so they are fully aware of when to spring into action if it is triggered. 
  • Designate a safe meeting place outside of the home and make a fun game by timing how fast the children can calmly get out of the house from different areas when the alarm goes off. 

Beginning this awareness from a young age will help children prepare to the best of their abilities in the event of a dangerous situation.
