Homeowners and smoke alarm requirements
As a homeowner, it’s important you are fully aware of the smoke alarm requirements for your premises.

Your tenants’ responsibilities you need to know:

Inform
Inform you or the agent of any problems with the smoke alarms and notify when batteries are changed

No Interference
No interference with smoke alarms without a valid reason

Repair or Replace
Your tenant may repair or replace a smoke alarm if you have failed to do so within an appropriate amount of time

False Alarms
if a smoke alarm is activated by false alarms such as cooking smoke, your tenant needs to advise you immediately so you can arrange to either have it moved to a more suitable area or change to a different style of alarm

Reimburse
You will need to reimburse your tenants for all expenses involved in smoke alarms upon presentation of their receipts.
